Epocrates Rx Pro

I decided to look in detail into some of the differences betwee the free Epocrates program and the Epocrates Rx Pro version, which is available for purchase. There are many similarities between the two in terms of navigation. I searched out for differences that I could find.
To begin with, ePocrates' own information update service (called DocAlerts) are now integrated into ePocrates. Each time you sync, in addition to the usual medication and formulary updates, ePocrates also sends out notes on everything from new black-box warnings and dosing changes, to the ubiquitous product update alerts. Some of these are set so that you can request further info by email, while others can be saved as memo-like files in an applet that looks and feels almost identical to Palm's own memopad.

New for the ePocrates Rx Pro version is a tab that opens a list of alternative meds (everything from herbs and mushrooms to vitamins and nutritional supplements.) Epocrates has a section on common uses, doses, adverse reactions, drug interactions, synonyms a list of cautions and even mechanism of action. Epocrates Rx Pro has had a subprogram that allows you to check your patient's medications for interactions. The MultiCheck in ePocrates Rx Pro also looks at its alternative meds list. These are just some of the differences that I found.

HTC 6800 and Epocrates Rx

I look forward to downloading the free version of Epocrates Rx onto my new smart phone. This will be my first program that I install. One main advantage is that this program is free, and will be a great way for me to start out with a drug information resource in my pocket and get used to using it. I will have it at my side when I am at work, and will look forward to seeing how much it can help me. In school there have been times where the medical calculators would have came in useful. So far in PDA class it seems to me to be a very easy program to use. I will comment more on the program once I have it installed and have had some experience using it.

Blackberry 8820

This new Blackberry is a great addition to the line.

Pros--Guidance on the phone and on line makes a manual redundant.--Battery Life is amazing.--Spell check --GPS telenav pre loaded on phone--Incredible functionality--Wi-Fi makes surfing speeds awesome

Cons--3G would have been a great addition--Phone volumes could be better. Hard to hear in congested areas.--Buttons too close and not extremely tactile

Still in the initial process of evaluating phone but it is great so far. Will update this site as I use and "play" with this new addition.

HTC Mogul / XV6800 / PPC6800 / P4000

This is my first PDA out of the many phones that I have owned. I was able to play with this phone for a few weeks before a purchased it and I knew it was the one. Windows Mobile 6 is amazing and very, very user friendly.

Pros: Windows Mobile 6-Huge screen (great for videos)Microsoft Office MobileWi-fiFull keyboard: Nice and big (great for email, text, etc.)

Cons: Can't send picture mail to other phones, however, can receive from phones. Can only email them. Can't turn off status light without doing a registry edit (but then you loose all status lights and vibrate) but I can live with a blinking light! :)

All in all, a great phone. I would suggest it to anyone looking into a PDA. Its a little spendy, but worth every penny. Easy to use for those of us who aren't familiar with PDA's.

Palm Centro 690

This is the new Palm smartphone out on the market. It is only carried by Sprint so far.

Pros:Fast data speedsEasy data transfer (from a previous palm)Pocket friendlyApplications seem to load faster (compared to the 700p)Sprint Music ManagerDecent battery lifeGood call clarityGood volume all the way aroundEasy interfaceBest PDA available (palm is tried and true, and why go away from something that works so well?)I'm finding more as I use this phone, this is just a start.

Cons:So far nothing jumps out as a negative. This phone is basically the Treos that everyone knows and loves in a black and red plastic casing that is considerably smaller. It still has the touch screen but don't know come with a stylist and it is only offered with Palm OS.
